Deposit ETH to Arbitrum
Layer 2 blockchains, such as Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base, require ETH for transactions. This tutorial walks you through how to deposit ETH into an Arbitrum wallet.
There are two main ways to deposit ETH into your Arbitrum wallet:
- Through a centralized exchange - recommended for beginners
- Directly using Arbitrum's native bridge - recommended for Ethereum native users
Ensure you select the correct destination network in either method.
Transfer through a centralized exchange
Using a centralized exchange to transfer is a simple, straightforward method.
Step 1. Purchase Ethereum
- Create an account on a centralized exchange platform, such as Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, or KuCoin.
- Then, perform one of the following:
- Use your preferred payment method to buy ETH.
- Transfer other assets from your on-chain wallet to your chosen exchange platform and swap them for ETH.
Step 2. Withdraw to Arbitrum
- Go to the withdraw feature on your chosen exchange platform.
- Select Arbitrum as the network when withdrawing your ETH to your wallet.
Transfer directly through Arbitrum's native bridge
If you already have ETH in your EVM wallet, such MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or Coinbase Wallet, but it's on the Ethereum mainnet, you can use Arbitrum's native bridge to transfer your ETH directly from Ethereum to Arbitrum.
Step 1: Use Arbitrum Bridge
- Visit the Arbitrum Bridge and connect your EVM wallet.
Step 2. Check Gas Fees
- Ensure you have enough ETH in your wallet to cover gas fees on the Ethereum network.
Step 3: Bridge to Arbitrum:
- Set the destination to Arbitrum One and initiate the transfer.
